Reading Robert Manne’s article on the success of climate change deniers is rather discomforting (‘A Dark Victory’, August). But Manne does not list any of the contrasting evidence. For example, the recent release of the Koch-funded Berkeley Earth Surface Temperature study led to its scientific director, Richard Muller, publishing an op-ed piece titled ‘The Conversion of a Climate-Change Skeptic’ in the New York Times. One would also hope that facts such as the United States having just had the hottest January–June half year on record, Beijing having had its worst floods in 60 years, and the Greenland ice sheet now melting at the fastest rate in recorded history might also have some effect on the deniers.
