As the Australian Greens federal member for Cunningham from 2002 to 2004, I was disappointed with the statement that Adam Bandt was “the party’s first and only member of the House of Representatives” (‘Divided We Fall’, February). Neighbour’s piece also failed to highlight the important role played by local groups. As the member for Cunningham I answered to my local group and constituents, whilst taking advice from the NSW Greens and federal colleagues. It was a system that worked well. Neighbour’s story did, however, reveal that power and passion are two forces the Greens are learning to enjoy as each new day passes.
