I am so glad that Helen Garner has written a sympathetic review of Aki Kaurismaki’s film Le Havre (‘A Port for the Soul’, April). His films are profoundly moving in many ways. I remember seeing La Vie de Bohème back in the early ’90s in the old Mandarin Cinema in Elizabeth Street, Sydney, in an audience of about four people, and feeling strangely privileged, yet somewhat perplexed that his films didn’t always receive the admiration that they deserved.
