Casting my mind back over the Kate Jennings’ review of Wake in Fright (‘Home Truths: Revisiting Wake in Fright’, July), I realised Jennings had done what so many Australian critics and industry members do – ignore the writer or attribute the writer’s work to the director. Jennings gives the impression the story was created by a Canadian. It is not until nine pages into her article that we learn the film is an adaptation of the novel by Australian writer Kenneth Cook. The film’s scriptwriter, Evan Jones, has said it was a very faithful adaptation.
