Richard King (‘For the Love of Sharks’, March) overstates his case by denigrating as misanthropes those who happen to believe that the world we inhabit is not our world. He is on the money, however, about the limitations of causes as passing whims – we need only reflect upon how quickly outrage over the endemic cruelties of the live cattle and sheep trade dissipated in the face of economic and political imperatives.
