Lord Rees is widely acknowledged as one of the world's leading astronomers and cosmologists. He was elected President of the Royal Society and appointed to the House of Lords in 2005; he is Master of Trinity College, Cambridge; Royal Society Professor at Cambridge University; the UK Astronomer Royal; and the author of about 500 research papers, and several books.
