In this Key Thinkers lecture, Leon Sterling (Professor of Software Innovation and Engineering at the University of Melbourne) speaks of the life and influence of Donald Knuth.

Knuth, born in 1938, is a renowned Professor Emeritus at Stanford University. He was responsible for transforming the skill of computer programming into the academic field of computer science, through his writing of the seminal multi-volume work, “The Art of Computer Programming”.

In addition to fundamental contributions in theoretical computer science, Knuth revolutionized typesetting through his creation of the TeX computer typesetting system.
