Malcolm Knox’s critique of the Church of Scientology (‘Only Itself to Blame’, September) is sceptical of our belief that current psychiatric abuses – mistreatment of patients and the drugging of women and children – are unconscionable. But we don’t want people “not to take drugs”. We want them to get the truth about mental health treatment so that they can make informed choices. It may seem strange to some, but we think the world can be changed for the better and we try to do something about it. That is why, when you look for organisations doing human rights work, you will find names such as UnitingCare, Anglicare, The Salvation Army and, yes, the Church of Scientology.
