Congratulations on the latest issue of The Monthly. The Mark Aarons piece on Timor Leste deserves to be read very widely for the situation is far more complex than the Kellys and Sheridans of this world would have us believe; Robert Manne, as always, was right to tell Virginia; and Gideon Haigh needs special congratulations for bringing Vasily Grossman's work to notice. All sorts of recommendations have come to me for the work from the UK but hardly a mention in the Oz press. Perhaps as a nation we just don't want to know about suffering.
Does anyone write film reviews like Helen G?
