Paola Totaro repeats the common error that Clive James edited Honi Soit while at the University of Sydney (‘Clean As You Go’, October). Although his name appears together with mine in the past editor list on the Honi Soit website, Clive never held that position. He was happier dealing with things literary, which he did for several editors. Totaro’s implication that Clive ‘discovered’ Les Murray is on firmer ground. At a time when university poets were supposed to be lean, haggard and riven with angst, Clive was quick to recognise the talent in a rotund cheerful youth from the country who fitted none of these images.
