Key Thinkers: Elizabeth Presa on Auguste RodinPart 1 | Part 2 After failing to gain admittance to art school, Auguste Rodin worked for many years in obscurity. Yet by the turn of the 20th century Rodin dominated sculpture in France. The poet Rainer Maria Rilke, who worked as Rodin’s secretary, offered unique insights into how the sculptor ‘thinks’ with his hands through a complex dialectic that develops between touch and vision. In this Key Thinkers lecture, Elizabeth Presa discusses Rodin's work and Rilke’s writing on it, which remains something of a ‘secret bible’ for many sculptors working now. Elizabeth Presa is a sculptor and installation artist. She is the Head of The Centre for Ideas at the VCA.
