Iraq and Afghanistan - two very different countries and two very different theatres in which our militaries are conducting stability operations and counter-insurgency. As unique as each situation is, are there any commonalities between the two? Are there any lessons learned that can be applied to the other? In the Wednesday Lunch at Lowy on 24 September, non-resident fellow Lydia Khalil shared her recent experiences traveling and working in each conflict zone and discussed how commonalities can be applied to successful stability operations in both Iraq, Afghanistan, and any other potential conflict zone.
