Pandemics like swine flu and SARS capture the world's attention. But bigger public health issues like obesity in the developed world and AIDS in the developing world are much bigger killers. As life expectancy increases, health care costs seem destined to spiral out of control. What effects will the GFC have on global health care? How serious is the threat of a global pandemic? How to keep costs manageable while improving health care?

This discussion, hosted by Peter Thompson (ABC), took place as part of the National Summit 2009: Sustainable Globalisation - Will it survive the GFC?, hosted by the United States Studies Centre and the Harvard University Committee on Australian Studies.
