Our prosperity demands that we pay attention to China's economic wishes, but this will also inevitably lead to a challenge to our values. For the first time in our history our most important trading partner is not a member of our alliance system and is not a democracy. Welsey argues that Australia can no longer afford to muddle through its relationship with China.
