About the prize
In 1919 the first batch of Crown Lager was specially brewed, and for 35 years was crafted only in limited quantities and reserved exclusively for visiting diplomats and Australian ambassadors. Immediately after Queen Elizabeth II's coronation on 2 June 1953, Her Majesty announced her inaugural visit to Australia and hence it was deemed appropriate to release Crown Lager to the Australian public. So in 1954, Crown Lager became Australia's first premium beer and since that time has been recognised, simply, as Australia's finest.
First released in 2008, Crown Ambassador marked a new dawn in the beer market, pioneering a new luxury style of beer never before seen or tasted in Australia. This exquisite beer is brewed just once a year, in March, coinciding with the availability of fresh hops. Crown Ambassador's signature ingredient - fresh handpicked Galaxy hops from Myrtleford in Victoria - is an integral part of the brew, producing deep bitter hop notes while retaining the lager's trademark fruity aroma.
A limited number of bottles are crafted and each bottle is individually numbered, hand-waxed and meticulously hand-packaged.
