2080: The future of Australia's biodiversity. Hugh Possingham'By any measure we have the worst mammal extinction rate in the world... There is a mass crash in mammal populations occurring as we speak'. Hugh Possingham (Professor of Mathematics and Zoology) is one of Australia's most highly regarded conservation biologists. In this talk he lays out the crisis currently facing Australia's natural environment and the likely effects on its biodiversity. He believes it is not viable to return to what our natural environment used to be, because this is no longer possible, so efforts must be devoted to engineering new safe scenarios.
